Twitter surging past LinkedIn to take on Facebook and MySpace
As reported in TechCrunch today, Twitter has (according to Comscore) reached 32 million uniques in its last month of stats, eclipsing LinkedIn, Digg and NYTimes.com. Read the story here.
This is really quite an achievement.
Some folks think that their lack of a business model is a hindrance to their growth. Apparently not. In February, Twitter filled their funding tank with another $35 million round. Twitter runs on Amazon Web Services and S3. $35 million buys a lot of dynamic scaling and with all the interest from major players, they could probably raise another $100 million and still come out the other side making great returns for all investors.
Twitter has great global for the simple reason that most of its basic functionality is available on even the most modest handheld. If you have an iPhone, there is practically no reason ever to visit twitter.com. For users in the developing world, that makes twitter very attractive.
Now about that business model….
